Siyakhula Sonke Resource Development (Pty) Ltd
Is a new generation exploration company and the vehicle through which all future exploration interests will be pursued. The SSC Group, via Siyakhula Sonke Resource Development (Pty) Ltd, has a 26% equity interest in the Setemba Minerals Project -a heavy mineral offshore project with prospecting rights awarded in 2015. In addition, coal and platinum prospecting licences are currently being applied for by SSRD with strategic partners.
Project Setemba-additional information:
Fast Pace Trade and Invest 58 (Pty) Ltd (to be renamed Setemba Minerals) holds a prospecting right over a large heavy mineral (HM) deposit in the shadow, near-offshore area of Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal. We are currently in the process of developing a mining and processing feasibility study for this deposit.
The coastal dune system of northern KwaZulu-Natal is a world-class heavy mineral province, hosting various producers, notably Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) who have been producing titanium and high-purity iron and zircon since 1977. Situated to the North and South of Richards Bay, RBM currently produces some 2Mt of product per year with a world market share of 25% titanium (titania slag and rutile), 33% zircon and 26% of the world’s high purity pig-iron. The area also includes Exxaro’s Hillendale and Fairbreeze mines, both situated southwest of Richards Bay. Hillendale came into operation in 2001 and is now approaching the end of its life, whilst Fairbreeze is at an advanced stage of development.
The most important minerals produced are IImenite (FeTiO2), Rutile (TiO2) and Zircon (ZrSiO4). IImente is used to produce titanium dioxide in the form of an 85% pure titanium dioxide slag. Rutile is used to produce a higher-purity 95% titanium dioxide product. Pig-iron is a by-product of titanium slag production and zircon concentrate is refined to a zirconia product. Titanium dioxide has a brilliant white opacity and is incorporated in paints, ceramic tiles, plastics, paper and cosmetics.
